John Mulligan

Center for Research Computing

  • Research Interests:

Dr. Mulligan works in the history and aeshthetics of abstraction and the digital humanities. His work focuses on the intersections between art and science in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and the question of mediation in digital humanistic work. He has been published in Oxford's Notes and Queries on William Blake and Isaac Newton and in MIT's Leonardo on the history of anatomy, after building a life-sized electronic anatomy atlas in partnership with the Texas Medical Center Library, and Rice's Fondren Library and Engineering Department. His forthcoming publications focus on the history of the medical corporation and on the aesthetics of boredom in the history of big data; he is currently finishing a project on "middle-distant" reading using JSTOR data.

    Sometimes he updates his website.
